Knights of Columbus Council #2208 at 174 N. Main Street, New Haven, KY 40051 US - Family Day at the Schwoebel's in Campbellsville

Family Day at the Schwoebel's in Campbellsville

The Bishop Maloney Council #2208 of New Haven, Kentucky decided to have another Family Day before the summer was over! We celebrated with our Council's newly appointed District Deputy, John Schwoebel and his wife Beverley. They were very gracious hosts and again there was so much good food that no one came away without gaining some weight. John and his son John, Jr. grilled hamburgers and Brats and hotdogs for everyone. On the beautiful grounds we played cornhole and smoked cigars and sat around and watched the children swim in an outdoor built-in swimming pool with the water temperature set at a warm 76 degrees. Father Leger blessed the meal as usual and at this event the Grand Knight announced our Knight of the Year for 2007-2008, which was a unanimous choice. Bob Rowlett FS  has been the single most important member of our Council since we reorganized in 2006. He does it all! It is because of Bob that we are able to continue to be a force of good to our communities and our School. He stays involved in and around the Parish and many times is the one volunteer who sits with the Grand Knight at public functions like the Iron Horse Festival Booth or the Thomas the Train Booth...He is my right hand and arm. He is truly deserving of this honor - the Knight of the Year for the Double Star Council #2208 of New Haven, KY......
This being said we had a wonderful time at the Schwoebel's on August 31st, 2008 from 1pm until 6pm. There were 15 knights from our council who came and about 50 people in all that came to visit and enjoy good food and great company! We had less people due to the Labor Day weekend, but in all it was a very good day for our Council and our families. It is so important for small Councils (especially) to do this sort of thing. We have a small Council but many of our members have very large families; So we need to have events that can make it possible for the knights of big families to come and be together and meet with their brother knights' in a way that can't be experienced by doing service work alone.
